Bail Fugitive Recovery Persons Act

WHAT IS CA PC1299?

1299PC is the Bail Fugitive Recovery Persons Act section of the CA Penal Code.


HISTORY:

1299PC was in effect from the year 2000-2010 and then the law was repealed.  However, a slightly different version of 1299PC returned as law January 1, 2013.  The new version states:


To Bounty Hunt In California, there are no licensing requirements.  There are however qualifications and training requirements:



QUALIFICATIONS:

                             

1.  Must be 18 years of age.

                                   

2.  NO Felony convictions or if you do, you must have a Bail Agents Lic.

                                   

3.  Comply with the training requirements of PC 1299.

                      

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

                                   

1.  Complete a minimum of 20 hours of Bail Education by a CA Department of Insurance Certified Training Course.

                                   

2.  Complete a 40-hour Powers to Arrest Course certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.

                                   


CA BAIL AGENTS: Licensed after January 1, 2000 must be in compliance with above.


CA LICENSED PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS: Are exempt from above requirements.


***OUT OF STATE BAIL AGENTS & PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS:  Any Licensed Bail Agent or Licensed Private Investigator, licensed in another state may Bounty Hunt in California but must comply with CA Penal Code Section 847.5
